Logistics
I currently live near Scarborough Town Centre, Toronto, Canada and I offer lessons from my home. I also offer lessons online via zoom.
Inquiry Process
If you are interested in taking lessons with me yourself or booking lessons for your child(ren), drop me an email. I like to arrange a short phone to discuss what services you are interested in and any expectations you may have. I then offer a free trial session, where you can get an idea of what lessons are like and I can answer any further questions you may have.
Signing up Process
I ask clients to pay in advance of lessons. I sell packages in block of 4 lessons.
Fees and Billing
Storyteller’s fees are transparent, and can be found here. The fees have been set to reflect my qualifications, training and years of experience in both engineering and teaching performing arts. Fees are non-negotiable.
I do offer a sibling discount of $5 per child. However, the lessons must be booked consecutively on the same day.
I currently take payments via INTERAC. In future I will use a booking system to manage bookings and payments.
Prepare for the Lesson
Please bring along bottled water. You will need a physical folder and a legal pad, optionally a notebook as a homework book. Make sure you safely keep your notes and homework. We actively annotate text over months at a time. Repeatedly loosing your material means you will be loosing your precious hard work, so please be careful with your Speech and Drama material.
Please ensure you have printed copies of your performance pieces. I have noticed a significant difference in the exam performance of students who physically annotate their performance pieces and keep them carefully and those that do not.
Feedback
I will send through a short email summary of the lesson as follow up. Please read these and keep track of your child’s progress. With on line lessons, tutors no longer have the easy opportunity of having a quick debrief over the doorstep at pick up time, as is made possible with in-person lessons.
Cancellation Policy
I require 24 hours notice to cancel lessons. If lessons are cancelled within the 24 hour window, the lesson will be charged at full price.
In the event of illness or emergencies, please let me know you would like to cancel as soon as you can. cancellations in case of illness will not be charged. Repeated last minute cancellations due to illness may require a conversation about whether this is the right time for the student in question to be committing to Speech and Drama lessons. In order to make a satisfactory amount of progress and learn the desired skills, consistency is key. It may be a good idea to take some time off, and return to lessons at a later date.
Health and Safety
For any in person lessons, I would like to disclose that I have Rheumatoid Arthritis and due to the nature of the condition, I am immunocompromised. Therefore, I ask that if there is an in person lesson scheduled, and students aren’t feeling well (in terms of a cold flu that is communicable), that students inform me as soon as possible. For more information regarding my cancellation policy [CLICK HERE].
Due to my health issues, if we are having an in person session, I will most likely be wearing a face mask. I may also choose to use a portable air filter to furthe mitigate the risk of COVID-19. For more information regarding the health and safety policy, please [CLICK HERE].
Please note, turning up to in-person lessons unwell with a communicable condition will have a knock on impact not just for me, but for my students. Bacterial, viral and fungal infections can all trigger my arthritis symptoms which can leave me bed ridden for weeks, resulting in unnecessary cancellations and delays to exam preparation. I am doing everything I can to mitigate the risk including masking in public in my personal time. I ask you respect these boundaries I have around managing my health.
Termination of Services
I reserve the right to terminate my services at any point in time with immediate effect. Conditions that may trigger this include behaviour that endangers the health and safety of myself, themselves, or any other students. Abusive language and behaviour will result in immediate termination.
If a student attends in person lessons with a communicable condition (such as a cold/flu/stomach bug, therefore exposing me), I will end the lesson straight away. My services will also be terminated with immediate effect.
